The department’s main function is law enforcement. In addition to deterring crime, the department cooperates in the presentation of various safety programs in the community.

Emergency law enforcement services are available through the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For non-emergency calls evenings and weekends, call the Sheriff’s Department at 261-1200.

Emergency Calls: 911

The department is on 24 hour emergency call service for fire, rescue and ambulance service transporting to Aspirus Wausau Hospital or the Marshfield Hospital. They also provide service to area townships.

SEVERE WEATHER EMERGENCY WARNINGS

In the event of a severe weather warning, there is a continuous fire siren signal in a three minute cycle until the threat is past. Emergency vehicles also patrol the streets with sirens and flashing lights.
In these emergencies, the Village Hall serves as a
Severe Weather Shelter for residents without access to basements.
During severe weather, anyone noticing downed power lines, trees blocking roads or buildings damaged by storm should report them to the Edgar Fire Department at 352-2892 or call
911.
