Edgar the Bear

This is no ordinary story. No, this is about one bear that gets in a sticky situation. This story starts in a small town with a great football team, a cool mascot, and a lonely bear sitting on a tree in someone’s front yard. He is posing as a wooden statue and tries hard not to move. That ends when a mosquito lands on him one night. He always thought he was stuck on that stump. That night he found out the hard way, literally. He fell off!

Well, now that he knows he can move he suddenly felt hungry, something he had never felt before, yet he knew the feeling. He heard people talking about walking down to the IGA to get something called food. He waited until the people in the store had left before he went in. Inside, there were so many different kinds of food that he didn’t know what to eat first. He was eating jelly when he found the honey. He started to grab as much as he could when he dropped the glass honey jar. When it shattered, it made a huge noise that could be heard all over town! That noise woke up the wildcat. When he reached the IGA, he found a broken honey jar and some sticky honey footprints. He followed them and found that they led up to the wooden statue of a bear. He then knew that the bear was not wooden and decided to put an end to his stealing food. So for the next couple of nights he watched the IGA, but the bear saw the wildcat peering from the top of the feed mill and knew he was not alone. He had to find somewhere else to go, but where?

To the high school is where he went. He came into the East gym entrance and saw a glorious display of trophies! There were; volleyball, basketball, track, wrestling, football, cross country, and baseball trophies. He wanted one but the case was locked, so he decided to break the glass display case. But before he could break the case he saw the wildcat watching from the doorway. Before you know it the bear and the wildcat are in the wrestling room tearing each other apart! The bear puts the wildcat in a headlock and the match is over, the bear won!

Now the wildcat was really mad, he had to find a way to make sure that the bear wouldn’t steal anything from the town ever again. The wildcat spent five or six sleepless nights prowling around the town trying to find where that dinky bear went. Then one night he found him playing on the St. John’s School playground. “What a sight!” the wildcat said, “Even though he is a grown bear, he still plays like a little cub!” He followed the bear for the next few nights and found out where he was hiding. He was posing as Smokey the Bear at the Cenex and at night he was eating all the Hot Stuff pizzas that he could find. The wildcat was furious at this because they had promised him all the leftover anchovy pizzas, and now there were none left! “Time to take drastic action, I’ll call my old buddy Bucky Badger.”

Well, Bucky had a great idea! But first they had to get the bear to his tree stump. They lured him there with lots of honey. He soon found the honey trail, but he caught on right away and started to run. But Bucky and the wildcat were chasing him so he decided to go back to posing as the statue. Now as you can see he is a very dumb bear and he closed his eyes and waited for them to go past, but they weren’t as dumb as him and they knew his secret. What the bear didn’t know was that they had poured five tubes of super-glue on the stump! The wildcat and Bucky walked back to the High School, wild with giggles, knowing that they had finally out-smarted the bear.

When the bear heard them leave he tried to get off and was surprised to find himself stuck. Now you know why there is a statue of a bear in Edgar!
